My Damn Channel (www.MyDamnChannel.com) is the brainchild of Founder and CEO, Rob Barnett. My Damn Channel is an entertainment studio and new media platform created to empower comedians, musicians and filmmakers to co-produce, distribute and monetize original, episodic video.
My Damn Channel establishes a new paradigm in the digital entertainment medium by giving professional talent unprecedented control over their content with new media mass distribution. Talent get their own channel and share in the ad revenue.
My Damn Channel launched in July 2007, has offices in New York and Los Angeles and has grown into a multi-faceted and successful business with more than 500 original videos, over 20 channels and over 40 series. In addition to being its own destination, My Damn Channel has racked up more than 50,000 You Tube subscribers and also syndicates content through numerous deals. This has proved to be a valuable and effective combination for advertisers such as Southern Comfort, Puma, Lincoln, HBO and film and DVD studios. Advertisers are guaranteed quality content and sizable and engaged audiences to help promote their brands.
My Damn Channel produces a steady-stream of curated, original comedy and music programming. You Suck at Photoshop, a ‘mockutorial’ narrated by a loathsome nerd, is My Damn Channel’s most viewed original series, seen more than 20 million times. Harry Shearer’s channel features original music videos, political satire, and “Found Objects,” which catches news anchors acting out between live shots. Wainy Days, follows the romantic misadventures of comedian David Wain with guest stars including Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, and Jonah Hill. Don Was produces the site’s music channel featuring original music and videos in every genre.
My Damn Channel won 7 accolades at the 2008 Webby Awards (including Best Comedy Series), has been selected for 4 official honoree awards and nominated again for the 2009 Webby Award for Best Comedy Series and won two 2009 Streamy Awards.
Barnett has produced radio, television, film, and new media with hundreds of diverse communicators including President Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, The Rolling Stones, Bono, Jimmy Kimmel, Adam Carolla, Johnny Rotten and more.Barnett was the President of Programming for CBS Radio from 2004-2006, where he oversaw content development for more than 179 stations, and launched new formats in 30 markets. Prior to that he was a production and a programming exec at MTV and VH1 for more than 11 years where he produced news, specials, and series for both outlets and oversaw all network programming. At VH1, he was VP of Program Planning for the launch of iconic hit shows including “Behind the Music,” the program that fueled VH1’s ratings turnaround. In the earlier part of his career, Barnett worked at rock radio stations in Boston, Dallas, and Los Angeles. He was on-air talent in all three markets, and the Program Director in Boston and Dallas.
Barnett also worked as an independent producer for projects including “Martin Scorsese Presents the Blues,” a multi-part, PBS film series; “Staffers,” a reality TV series on politics; and “Inside the Bubble,” a documentary feature film on the 2004 U.S. Presidential campaign.
Barnett is married, has three children and lives in New Jersey.
